NGO are contributing at all stages of the research cycle, fostering the relevance and effectiveness of the research, priority setting, and knowledge translation to action. They have a key role in stewardship (promoting and advocating for relevant global health research), resource mobilization for research, the generation, utilization and management of knowledge, and capacity development. Yet, typically, the involvement of NGO in research is downstream from knowledge production and it usually takes the form of a partnership with universities or dedicated research agencies.
“Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health.”We consider Health Promotion as the means to support individuals and communities to take responsibility for their own health and to work for an environment in which they can be successful. “Health Promotion puts health on the agenda of policy-makers in all sectors and at all levels of the system, directing them to be aware of the health consequences of their decisions and to accept their responsibility for health.”
rban slum residents suffers from various health conditions owing to mainly two reasons –first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness; and second the unwillingness to lose a day’s wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility. Healthcare for underprivileged, which is a desperate need, thus remains unaddressed.
In such a scenario a free regular medical clinic has been opened in slum areas of our national capital. at our free medical clinic Doctors and paramedical staff from renowned government and non-government medical hospitals examined patients, gave free medical consultation in areas of general medicine, dental treatment, Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure Testing, public hygiene and prescribed, distributed free medicines, conducted free medical tests for the poor and needy.Inequities in health are caused by a number of determinants, including the use of or access to health care facilities. Research which addresses these issues requires an intersectoral approach, involving trans-disciplinary teams and methodologies.
We all know the popular saying “Health is Wealth”. By health we do not mean the absence of physical troubles only. But it is a state of complete physical;, mental and social well-being. The loss of health is loss of all happiness.Several important initiatives have been undertaken to address the global health research agenda. They have been fostered by individuals and groups from local, national and international bodies who shared a common vision in advocating for health research directed towards the low and middle income countries.
